The affairs around the CEU and the extra immigration tax made the strategy of the Fidesz-empire regarding NGOs, institutions they don’t like: unsettling and sabotaging. After obtaining 2/3 majority they made fluid legislation and created an atmosphere in which these organizations themselves decided to dissolve or leave.
The tax office hasn’t been willing to answer our questions regarding the extra immigration tax, they didn’t even meet the deadline they gave themselves.
The leadership of Migration Aid Foundation have decided that we won’t let ourselves be unsettled, so if the tax office won’t interpret the extra immigration tax law, we will interpret it on our own.
Thus we have decided that we won’t care about the extra immigration tax any more. The fundraising stop we started on August 26 has ended today, we are open again for financial or material donations.
We made this decision out of necessity: in the past 3 months we have run out of our reserves by the foundraising stop we started because of the vague legal circumstances. Our centre for the support of refugee families had to stay closed this week, because we couldn’t fill its shelves with food or basic hygienic products. Our last pieces of flour, sugar, oil and washing powder went to an Afghan family of six.
We resist the government’s efforts to sabotage the Migration Aid’s work in the field of providing for refugees and keep doing our job as long as we can find support for it. For where the law turns into unlawfulness, resistance is obligatory.
